SPIC AND SPAN. Home & Office Cleaning - Official guidelines for cleaning associates during COVID-19 (!)

Due to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), SPIC AND SPAN. Home & Office Cleaning issued guidelines for cleaners and customers which should be followed in order to minimize the risk of getting infected.

Only regular cleaning staff can be assigned to cleaning jobs and only verified cleaning associates who cooperate with SPIC AND SPAN. can be assigned to cleaning jobs. SPIC AND SPAN. ensures training on the appropriate use of cleaning and disinfection chemicals.
For our cleaning associates:
  1. Wear disposable gloves and gowns for all tasks in the cleaning process, including handling trash.
  2. Gloves should be removed carefully to avoid contamination of the wearer and the surrounding area.
  3. Wash your hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds.
  4. Hand sanitizer: If soap and water are not available and hands are not visibly dirty, an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol may be used. However, if hands are visibly dirty, always wash hands with soap and water.
  5. Wash your hands always after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing, using the restroom, contact with animals or pets, AND before eating or preparing food, or providing routine care for another person who needs assistance (e.g., a child).
  6. Ask a customer to leave the premises for the duration of cleaning if possible. 
  7. Do not start cleaning if a customer is infected or you suspect that they might be infected.
  8. Keep a distance of at least 2 meters from a customer.
  9. Sanitize all of your cleaning equipment before putting it back to the storage.
  10. Do not come to the office unless necessary, use SPIC AND SPAN. Platform to communicate with supervisors and other team members.
 SPIC AND SPAN. Home & Office Cleaning is obliged to:
  • Educate workers performing cleaning, laundry, and trash pick-up to recognize the symptoms of COVID-19.
  • Provide instructions on what to do if they develop symptoms within 14 days after their last possible exposure to the virus.
  • Develop policies for worker protection and provide training to all cleaning staff on-site prior to providing cleaning tasks.
  • Comply with OSHA’s standards on Bloodborne Pathogens (29 CFR 1910.1030external icon), including proper disposal of regulated waste, and PPE (29 CFR 1910.132external icon).
